When you read a novel, have you also attempted to study the historical and cultural backgrounds of the author, text, and original audience? What value do you find from doing that research?

Yes !

I had read the novel titled “ Henderson the Rain King” by Saul Bellow. I got so much engulfed in the “ theme” of intricate game of “ a white man becoming the king in Africa” that I read about the problems faced by the immigrants in the USA. I also learnt about the “ ghetto” of a Jew in the USA both in physical and psychological sense. The prevalence of “ rootlessness” of the people in twentieth century America and Europe or roughly speaking the entire world was revealed to me. My small research gave me the “ REALISATION” that the world was poised to become a Global Village run by the Global Economy and the “ boundaries of the nation states were blurring continuously.

Thank you very much indeed for your thoughtful question ????????????
